Heat and The Health Risks To Your Pet

The air temperature can be way different then pavement! Walking your dog on hot pavement can be extremely painful and hazardous on your pets paws, to prevent this try the seven-second rule this will tell you if it’s ok for your pet to walk on that pavement. Place the back of your hand or your foot on the pavement, If you cannot hold it there for seven seconds it’s too hot to walk your dog on the pavement. Walk on grassy area or shaded areas, meadows, early morning or late evenings. Be mindful of what time you walk your dogs, don’t let this happened to them.

Most dog owners know that you can’t leave a pet in a hot car. Temperatures can rise to dangerous levels in just minutes, putting your dog at risk of heatstroke, It doesn’t have to be super hot outside for your car to heat up. The inside of a vehicle parked in 70-degree fahrenheit weather can reach 100 degrees fahrenheit in just 20 minutes, don’t chance it travel with another adult who can remain in the vehicle with the air conditioner on. Some signs of heatstroke are heavy panting, glazed eyes, a rapid heartbeat, difficulty breathing, excessive thirst, lethargy, fever, dizziness, lack of coordination, profuse salivation, vomiting, a deep red or purple tongue, seizure and unconsciousness. A dogs ears are more sensitive than ours, They can hear sounds that are between -5 dB and -15 dB on average, with a frequency range as high as 47,000 to 65,000 Hz. These are sounds far too high-pitched for Humans that hear 20 Hz (lowest pitch) to 20 kHz (highest pitch) source click here Sounds Only Dogs Can Hear: Higher Pitches Is Where They Shine, any trauma and fear is crippling to our pets! Noises could be anything from yelling, loud music, fireworks, horns of all sorts and thunderstorms to name a few! A 2019 UK study found noise sensitivity was the most common anxiety- related trait (See more in The Forever Dog book page 85), more information on dogs and loud noises click here Dog Scared of Loud Noises? Why Dogs are Afraid of Fireworks, ways to help calm dogs is to muffle the noise close drapes, find a noiseless space for your pet give them a lasting chew toy, so they have an outlet for their anxiety. Remember to choose the right size for your pets! My personal preference is to try calming products first instead of medications, I put a blanket over our dogs ears during fireworks and hug them tight, our dogs really do not like loud noises, it truly can be a win win for the pet and the owner it’s very calming, try it sometime! I did do some research on several noise cancelling products for dogs unfortunately, I did not find anything that looked comfortable enough for a dog or wouldn’t want to make them shake it off! so, what I will try to do is make my own if it works I will share with you all! It will consist of materials that are non- toxic to animals and comfortable for our pets ears, stay tuned! Take a look here for more pet product ideas Non-Toxic Dog Toys Made in the USA, bottom line all they have is us we committed to love and care for them when we made them a part of the family and the love they give in return is unmeasurable!

Just when we think purchasing a simple bowl for our fur babies food and water is all we had to do, right? Well, there is more to it than that! Meet Cobalt-60, the longest-lived radioactive isotope(a radioactive form of an element) with a half-life of 5.27 years. Co-60 when ingested and excreted in feces, there is a small amount absorbed by the liver, kidneys and bones this can cause cancer from internal exposure to gamma radiation

Radionuclide Basics: Cobalt-60 | US EPA

Petco in 2013 had recalled stainless steel pet bowls, due to cobalt radiation contamination. It is recommended that we purchase 18-gauge stainless steel third-party checked bowls to help prevent toxins from getting into our pets organs. More information on this can be found in the “Forever Dog Book By Rodney Habib.” There was only one product that I found here is the link Stainless Steel Dog Bowls | Made in USA | Basis Products, if you see a new product that states “Third Party Tested for purity” feel free to share on my Facebook Business page.
